Speed Riding Hocharn (3254m)

April 17th, 2011

Hi extreme altitude difference collectors!
Yesterday Patrick and me we drove to Rauris for hiking up the Hocharn. What a nice fresh powder (about 15cm).

We reached the summit in a good time and then we started our speedrider the swing spitfire and flew downwards.
One time is not enough, so we hiked up a second time to the hocharn.
Patrick decided to go back because he felt some sunstroke.

The last 300m of altitude i had a poor visibility with only 5 to 10m. at the mountain top i built a horizontal place for sleeping and i jumped as soon as possible into the sleeping bag. brrrrr that was bloody cold(-14°C).
at 5:30 am this sunday i woke up ( i think i didn’t slept but who needs sleep?) and at 6:20 i had an amazing sunrise.
then i did a second speed ride downwards and after some breakfast patrick and me we did the third tour up to the…. whats the name of the mountain? yeah the hocharn.
All good things come in threes.
patrick gave up a second time because of too much sun and so i had to walk alone beside the other 300m mountaineers to the summit.
at 1pm a flew down with my speed glider.
and i didn’t thought to go a 4th time in a row to the summit.
so 3 times is enough i said.
thats 5100m of altidude difference.
have a nice regeneration week.

Mountaineering Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m)

April 10th, 2011

Hi extreme windy mountaineers!
This day i hiked in Spital / Pyhrn over the Hofalmhut to the Grosser Pyhrgas.
i mounted a breast bandage to intensify the training. so i had to breathe more often.
I had a really nice view to the other summits around but unfortunately there was too much wind(about 70km/h in the gusts) to start my speedflyer.
so i had to hike downwards.
but for me that was not a big problem!!
i wish you a great week.

Speed Flying Kleiner Priel (2136m)

March 12th, 2011

hi extreme foen addicted mountaineers!
this saturday summit surfer patrick and me we drove to hinterstoder for hiking up the kleiner priel (2136m) two times!
the first flight with the speed glider spitfire 11m² was really deep in the forest lane. great mountain view and nice southerly wind.
after a long break we hiked up a second time! the wind was stronger but we could start our speedglider easy. the second flight was very tubulent so we only did a safety flight.
you can imagine the cappuccino and the Malakoff tart tastes really great at the cafe gollner 😉

Speed Riding Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m)

February 9th, 2011

Hi mountain addicted People!
This day Summitsurfer Patrick and me we drove to Spital / Pyhrn for speed riding the Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m).
We needed 2:55 for stomping up to the summit. i went with the mounted skies on the back pack and patrick decided to go without skies. why not…
on the top there was north westerly at about 15km/hrs and we had an amazing view.

thanks for my chief at my company Beko Engineering & Informatik AG who sponsered me the new speed glider.
now i feel really associated and “connected” to my glider and company.

We flew down the Hasenbergrinne and had a lot of fun there.
Thanks for this great afternoon on the mountains.

Speed Flying Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m)

January 16th, 2011

Life must go on.
So after the tragic accident from our friend hari ten days before, we (patrick and me) decided to go to the mountains again.
we drove to spital for hiking up to the grosser pyhrgas (2244m).
what a nice day with nearly no wind. we had really good visibility and we could see one hot-air balloon.
we arrived at midday and there we had some break. then we did our first speed fly session. i flew with the gin yak 16.5m² and patrick with the swing spitfire 11m².
it was a really easy flight with landing in the village near the church.
thx for this nice mountaineering and flying day.
Here you can read a good article about speed riding warnings.
NO RISK NO FUN, NO LIMIT NO LIFE!

Ski Mountaineering and Speed Riding Großer Priel (2515m)

December 31st, 2010

Hi extreme winter lovers!
Yesterday, Patrick and me we drove to the Almtalerhaus in Grünau (Almtal)
We hiked up with our skis on the backpack from the ground of the schermberg north wall to the welser hut over the normal route. the sun was shining but not at our place because of the northern side.
when we reached the ridge near the brotfallscharte we got sun too. so we had warm temperature but the wind was strong. brrr. at 1:15pm we reached the summit of großer priel (2515m). we had there a nice lunch on the wind protected southern side. what a great view after 5hours and 15 minutes of hard hiking. but every step was worth it 😉
at the großer priel summit we had too less snow for starting our speed glider so we hiked the ridge back and found a great starting place over a cliff.
what an amazing starting place.
the only problem we had was the fog which has suddenly covered the whole valley. we had to wait nearly two hours but that was not a problem because we had sun and an amazing view.
at 4pm we started our speedglider the swing spitfire 11m² with our skis. the start was tricky because we had to jump upon a cliff. when we flew the last sun rays shined to the western wall of the grosser priel. we needed only 3minutes and 30 seconds for flying down to the ground near the schermberg. we were so happy to managed this great winter tour.
thanks a lot for this adventure.
i wish you all the best wishes and a happy new year. 😉

Speed Riding Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m)

December 4th, 2010

Hi extreme ski montaineering speedriders!
Patrik, Harry , Phillipp and me we opened the Winter season this day at our home mountains!
We hiked up from the bosruckhütte in Spital to the Grosser Pyhrgas.
First there was fog around the valley but after a while the fog gets cleared. muhaaa.
First Philipp did his first mountain paragliding flight with skies and our help 300m under the mountain top. Well down!!
Then we hiked up to the mountain top and we started our speedrider. i had to reject my first take off because of too much tailwind.
but with the second chance i had a really great flight!
thx for this wonderful day!

Speedflying Grimming (2351m)

November 29th, 2010

Hi winter walk and fly addicts!
Because of bad weather on sunday in carinthia we decided to go further north and saw the beautiful grimming near trautenfels.
so we hiked up until the fixed rope. at this point you will need the crampon. it began also to snowing so it was a good decision to fly downwards. we found a nice starting point in the deep and steep snow! harry sank until his hip sometimes because of so much snow there! great! but we had no skis so we had to run in the deep snow and start our speedflyer which was not a problem. the flight was short but we had a good feeling after yesterdays speedriding session with daniel at the mölltaler glacier.
thx for this great winter weekend!
austria is so beautiful, in the winter season too.
have a nice week

Speedflying Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m)

November 13th, 2010

Hi foen addicted Speedflyer!
This day Patrick, Harry and me we drove to Spital and we hiked up in a really warm weather(föhn) to the grosser pyhrgas (2244m)
Patrick did the start at the west starting zone, but that was really tricky.
harry and me we looked for another starting zone because the southerly wind was getting stronger.
we found a nice cliff where we only had to run 1 step and we flew. crazy!
it was possible to do some soaring near the rocks because of the strong and really constand southerly wind – wonderful!
Then i had to spiral to get down – muhaaaa.
Thx for this nice day in the alps after 2 weeks of not flying…

Speedflying Kleiner Priel

October 2nd, 2010

Hi Speedflyers and Skyrunners!
This wonderful autumn day Patrik, Harry and me we drove to Hinterstoder and hiked up 2 times to the Kleiner Priel (2136m) for Speedflying with our Gin Yak and Nervoures Swoop.
First there was some Fog in the Valley, but after 30min we could blow away the fog with our positive vibrations 😉
The wind comes from west to southwest – little bit strange.
The launching of the speedflyer was a little bit tricky because of some sidewind conditons.
Patrik found a nice line down to Hinterstoder -Big Respect!
Thx for the great day!
