Mustagh Ata Ski-Expedition

August 31st, 2011

Gaspadar!
This sommer i did a mountain expedtion in china to the mustagh ata (7546m) with ruefa bergreisen.
my plan was to go up by skies to the summit and fly down with the speedglider.
the chances were about 30% to fly down from the top. nevertheless i wanted to try this action.
i got a new glider from swing – the hybrid sport 17.
so we started at 27th of july in munich and flew over moscow to bishkek in kirgisia.
our guide alex – we called him “manager” from the mountain agency tien shan travel picked us up at the airport on the morning and we drove directly to naryn which is a city on the silk road. on the next day we drove to the touragat pass (3752m) and entered china after many checkpoints (in kirgisa we had 4 to manage or wait….)
at the chinese boarder we had to carry all our luggage some meters over the border line to the already waiting truck.
fortunately the streets in china were better then in kirgisia so we had a more or nice time on the road with our new guide (mr. kong) from the mountain agency in kashgar.
after a x-ray session from the whole luggage at the chinese checkpoint we arrived at half past 7 in kashgar at our hotel. first we had to carry up our luggage to the room, but then we were happy to enjoy our first dinner at the chinese restaurant. a strange thing was, that it is normal too bring the drinks from the shops to the restaurant…. good idea – isn’t it?
we did nice and hot sight seeing in kashgar city and bought the rest for the expedition.
on saturday night suddenly there drove amor-cased water gun cars across the streets. on the morning we heard that there were some terror attacks from the uygur people with 8 murdered people. thats an ethnic minority group here. here in xinjiang region there are about 50 minority groups. you can imagine the different culture what you can see here. some days later there was an terror attack in kashgar with 14 murdered people. crazy. nobody recognised here in europe.
nevertheless we reached on the karakorum highway after a long travel the village subashi (3726m). at the evening we could see the massive mountain mustagh ata.
here we are…..
we had a nice dinner outside and enjoyed the great energy from the mountain. the night we slept in a yurt which was great and warm with our sleeping bags.
on tuesday the 1st of august the camels get packed and after breakfast we hiked in 4 hours to our basecamp (4530m). during the day the temperature rise up to 25°C. what a hot area here. but when clouds has covered the sky the temperature falled down rapidly…..
next stories coming soon – now its weekend.

Speed Riding Kleiner Hochkasten (2352m)

May 8th, 2011

Hi extreme winter addicted freaks.
Yesterday i hiked from hinterstoder above the brentnerkar to the kleiner hochkasten (2352m).
i had to carry my skiing equipment about 2hrs uphill.
at the hunting hut i had a discussion with a huntress. she said thats not a good idea to go there because of the chamois. but then she let me pass her 😉
then after the schoismauer i could walk with my skies up to the kleiner hochkasten.
at the mountain top i had a really good view. woww!
then i found a good starting place for my speed glider in a nice deep and steep channel.
the start was great and i had a great flight. the first flight is always a safety flight, but i will come again for sure 😉

This day i started at 5:30am with woif at hinterstoder and hiked up again to the kleiner hochkasten above the brentnerkar because of the good conditions.
we had a lot of fun hiking uphill. at the last third there was a big avalanche from the rocky Brandleck. uii we were lucky to passed this passage 5min before….
unfortunately the clouds got more and the wind too. so i started at the brentnerkar and had a great flight to the dietlalm.
thx for this special weekend 😉

Speed Riding Hocharn (3254m)

April 17th, 2011

Hi extreme altitude difference collectors!
Yesterday Patrick and me we drove to Rauris for hiking up the Hocharn. What a nice fresh powder (about 15cm).

We reached the summit in a good time and then we started our speedrider the swing spitfire and flew downwards.
One time is not enough, so we hiked up a second time to the hocharn.
Patrick decided to go back because he felt some sunstroke.

The last 300m of altitude i had a poor visibility with only 5 to 10m. at the mountain top i built a horizontal place for sleeping and i jumped as soon as possible into the sleeping bag. brrrrr that was bloody cold(-14°C).
at 5:30 am this sunday i woke up ( i think i didn’t slept but who needs sleep?) and at 6:20 i had an amazing sunrise.
then i did a second speed ride downwards and after some breakfast patrick and me we did the third tour up to the…. whats the name of the mountain? yeah the hocharn.
All good things come in threes.
patrick gave up a second time because of too much sun and so i had to walk alone beside the other 300m mountaineers to the summit.
at 1pm a flew down with my speed glider.
and i didn’t thought to go a 4th time in a row to the summit.
so 3 times is enough i said.
thats 5100m of altidude difference.
have a nice regeneration week.

Speed Riding Krippenstein (2108m)

March 30th, 2011

Hi extreme gravity seekers!
This day, Christopher, Marco an me we drove to Obertraun for Speedflying and Speedriding the krippenstein.
We had a great day with a lot of height for rolls and so on 😉
My fastest run was 2:40″ for 1600m of height.
Chris did with Marco an Tandem flight and over the Hallstättersee Chris jumped from the Tandem and pulled his base rig after 2 seconds of delay for the first time.
I could hear the loud crow over the entire lake ;))
thx for the great day!

Ski Mountaineering Grosser Priel and Speed Riding Brotfall

February 28th, 2011

Hi extreme motivated weekenders!
after the grosser pyhrgas session on friday i hiked on the same day at 6:45pm in the night from hinterstoder to the prielschutzhaus in 2 hrs.
i slept alone in the winterroom of the prielschutzhaus
at 6:20am i started on saturday with the skies to the grosser priel. the sunrise was really great!!
this day i took the crampons with me so it was really easy to climb up the brotfallscharte ;).
after 2:50 hrs i stood at the grosser priel summit. what a great feeling!! at the ridge there was a lot of strong southerly wind. so i had to be careful because of the strong wind which could blow me away…
then i looked for the starting place for my speedglider.
at the grosser priel side pre summit there was too much wind from the side, so i went to the brotfall where i could start more or less easy….
the wind was really gusty but it was no problem to flew over the prielschutzhaus into the valley where i landed at my “big” landing zone at the creek.
thx for this grandiose tour on my favourite mountain.

Speed Riding Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m)

February 9th, 2011

Hi mountain addicted People!
This day Summitsurfer Patrick and me we drove to Spital / Pyhrn for speed riding the Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m).
We needed 2:55 for stomping up to the summit. i went with the mounted skies on the back pack and patrick decided to go without skies. why not…
on the top there was north westerly at about 15km/hrs and we had an amazing view.

thanks for my chief at my company Beko Engineering & Informatik AG who sponsered me the new speed glider.
now i feel really associated and “connected” to my glider and company.

We flew down the Hasenbergrinne and had a lot of fun there.
Thanks for this great afternoon on the mountains.

And this day i thought to me, i want to do the summit, otherwise our name summitsurfer will not fit 😉
ok i started at 7:10am at the Gasthaus Baumschlagerreith and reached the summit at nearly 12am. the weather was really great. there was about 20 to 30cm fresh powder snow…. i started my speed glider gin yak and flew downwards in 3mins to the poppenalm (1050m). what a nice line!
