Speedflying Grosser Pyhrgas

July 27th, 2010

Hi Speedies!
Last Evening Patrik and me we hiked (ran) up the Gr. Pyhrgas in Spital/Pyhrn.
We needed only 1.5hrs to the Starting place before the mountain top, because we wanted to fly as soon as possible with our speedflyer.
Unfortunately there was a lot of fog around the mountain top.
shit. we waited one hour and then we said, lets go down because we won’t fly through clouds or fog zone.
but 200m’s downwards we saw that the clouds were blown upwards so we went back and would try to start.
We were lucky to start with a little bit of side wind.
patrik didn’t need any step forward, because the upwind was so strong. what a good power start!
You can imagine our feeling while flying downwards at this amazing clouds and sky ambience.
Thx for the nice evening tour.
cya on the mountains and i wish you a nice holiday.
i will go for one or two weeks to switzerland for hiking and speedflying.

Speedflying Kleiner Priel

July 11th, 2010

Hi Speedflyer and Skyrunner!
This Day Patrik and me(bernhard) we hiked up from Hinterstoder with our speedflyer Gin Yak to the Kleiner Priel (2136m above sealevel). we needed 2:45 hrs. nice walking 😉 then we waited one hour for good upwind and ran down like a 100m sprinter and jumped over a rock edge… Lo and behold! We were flying ;)) the first flight was really great because of no big thermal disruption.
We landed on the landing place in Hinterstoder.
Thanks to Daniela for the warm welcome at her flight school Hinterstoder.
Because we had so much fun we decided to hike up a second time. 1.5 liter water and everything is possible we thought – also at 32°C..
we managed the second walk in 3hours. unfortunately at the starting place we had some tailwind but it was possible to start in a lull.
we had good thermal upwinds. on the landing place there were “strong” windy conditons. after 3100m of height on this day and 5500m of height on the weekend i enjoyed the roast at the afternoon.
thx for the great weekend. cya on the mountains or in the air.
have a nice week.

Speedflying Tofana di Rozes

June 6th, 2010

On Sunday we hiked up on the normal route to the Tofana di Rozes.
we managed it with a hard 3:24 hours tour walking in the deep and steep and wet snow.
the mountain top is at 3225 metres above sealevel.
we had to be fast because a big cloud was coming in our direction…
we managed this start very good and harry had some really good upwind conditions inside the clouds. there is very grey 😉
we flew down to cortina d’ ampezzo and so i had also my first 2000m flight.
then we drove back home and saw the “drei zinnen” and then we drove to the großglockner hochalpenstrasse.
we did there also 2 flights but there i don’t show some pics because thats not allowed according the gamekeeper.
nevertheless we get addicted into this sport speedflying.
cya on the mountains and thx for this really nice weekend.

Speedflying Col Nudo

June 4th, 2010

On Friday we hiked up to the Col Nudo, the mountain height is 2471 metres above sealevel.
really nice and attractive hike.
we did there a one hour break and waited until we got fine upwind conditions.
then we applied our speedflyer side by side on the snowridge and fly away with our speedflyer. what a nice action.
i managed to land at the airfield in garna (that was a flight with 1900 metres of height difference)
after a very good gelati we drove up to the refugio dolada and started some thermal flights downwards.

Speedflying Monte Dolada

June 3rd, 2010

On thursday in the morning we drove to Farra D’Alpago for speedflying.
We hiked up to the Rifugio Dolada and then to the Plan de guera, which was very beautiful. i fell in love with this mountains 😉
then we climbed on the ridge to the Monte Dolada which is 1938 metres above sealevel.
We had not much time for lunch because some big clouds has formed in the south. so we dressed our harnes and installed our speedflyer and ran down a steep channel.
What a big action. The landing was really funny, harry landed deep into the gras and patrik did a slide with a small tree.
great day! thx!

Speedflying Zwölferkogel

May 29th, 2010

Hi Speedjunkies!
This day harry, patrick and me (bernhard) we went to Grünau im Almtal and hiked up on the Grießkarsteig to the Zwölferkogel (2099metres above sealevel).
The whole tour we had foggy weather, but the weatherforecast announced better weather. so we remain defiant and motivated each other, actually we had so much motivation to climb up to the mountain top also at shitty weather and wait until we get some cloud window and good wind to start.
at 4:30pm we were lucky to get better condition and we saw the first time from the top to the almsee.
so we had to be fast. harry was the first who want to launch his speedflyer swoop mountain 16m² from nervoures .
he needed some help from us, so patrik and me we held the ends of the speedflyer so it was not possible to get dangled on the sharp stones. harry did 2 motivated steps on the deep and steep rocks and flew away.
respect!!!! big up.
he had a really nice flight with some tailwind.

patrick and me, we went to the einserkogel because harry told us there is a better launching zone.
patrik managed the launching also very good and had a lot of fun.
unfortunately i had some drizzel and my speedflyer gin yak 16.5m² got wet.
also the up wind got less and squally and from the other side of the mountain i had some tailwind. so i started one time and had to abort the launching.
i went back to the griesskarscharte and there i started my speedflyer on the steep snow. some sprint and Highty-tighty! I was flying. first over the griesskarsteig and i turned left to the almsee.
what a great feeling to speed up the yak. the landing was no problem.
Fortune favors the bold.
thx for the action day.
cya asap on the mountains 😉
have a nice week

Speedflying Gr. Pyhrgas

May 24th, 2010

hi hike and fly addicts.
This day was the day of the weekend.
patrik, harry and me we drove to spital / pyhrn for speedflying.
we hiked up to the grosser pyhrgas that has a height of 2244m above sealevel.
after 2 hours of walking we had some “good” northwesterly wind.
we found some starting place.
we ran down and after 2 steps we fly away. what an amazing feeling when you have so much air under you….. brrrrrr – no words to explain.
we did a machine gun start with about 20 seconds between each speedflyer.
it was a nice flight with 1604metres of altidude difference and it took us 11minutes.
thx for harry who showed us the speedflying and gave us the essential safety feeling and motivation.
then patrik and me we said let’s do it a second time. so we hiked up again to the mountain top of the grosser pyhrgas and had some low up wind at the top.
i reached a really good upwind in the middle of the valley. near me there was also one cloud. you can imagine the really nice upwind. i had really hard work to manage the different wind situations. i flow up with my speedflyer gin yak 16.5m² to the cloud above me.
than patrik landed so i did some steep turns downwards and i landed after 32minutes. it would have been possible to extend the flight for an hours or more for sure. crazy thermal lift…..
you can imagine our happy face and our body was full of body internal drugs like adrenaline and endorphine.
thx for this really nice day and weekend.
have a nice week

Speedflying Herndleck

May 13th, 2010

Hi Speedjunkies!
after a long time of not writing any posts on my site because i was doing a parachute course at the paraglyding school in ternberg with poscher hans and we opened our climbing school (Kletterkompetenzzentrum Camp Sibley) and doing some underwater works for the cablepark ausee, i have time to write this day.
first of all we had a very interesting and funny parachute training and i can recommend everyone to to a paraglyding course at ternberg. this is the best paraglyding school in austria!

unfortunately speedflying is not really legal so far, we bought such small stuff – a gin yak 16.5m² – that’s really hot!
the weight with the harness is about 3kg and it makes a lot fun!

This day Patrick and me we drove to ternberg for speedflying at the herndleck.
we hiked up to the top of the herndleck at 1026metres above sealevel.
there was some slope wind not much, but ok for starting. so we flew 3 times to the grassland before the rocks.
what a great rush and surge of adrenaline!

at the last time we had some following wind. so the landing was a little bit faster. nevertheless that was not a big problem for us with good landing technics like sliding on the wet grassland.
the cows there jumped away when they saw us – funny guys.

the next time when we have better slope wind we fly down to the landing near the enns.
life is so beautiful! feel the free spirit!
cya in ternberg for paragliding or speedflying
