Speedflying Grimming (2351m)

November 29th, 2010

Hi winter walk and fly addicts!
Because of bad weather on sunday in carinthia we decided to go further north and saw the beautiful grimming near trautenfels.
so we hiked up until the fixed rope. at this point you will need the crampon. it began also to snowing so it was a good decision to fly downwards. we found a nice starting point in the deep and steep snow! harry sank until his hip sometimes because of so much snow there! great! but we had no skis so we had to run in the deep snow and start our speedflyer which was not a problem. the flight was short but we had a good feeling after yesterdays speedriding session with daniel at the mölltaler glacier.
thx for this great winter weekend!
austria is so beautiful, in the winter season too.
have a nice week

Speedriding Mölltaler Glacier (Mölle Hölle)

November 28th, 2010

Hi extreme skiing Speedies.
This weekend, Harry and me we drove to the “Mölltaler Gletscher” for testing the Speedrider Spitfire 11m² and 9m² from Swing. Btw: Thx to Daniel Kofler!!
This day was my first day trying to skiing after 14 years of snowboarding only. you can imagine my unconfident way of skiing.
after two runs we got the speedglider spitfire 11m² from swing. muhaaa thats great action with southerly wind of about 40 km/h and -18°C. yesssa.
The launching technique is a special one like a cobra. Sometimes it worked well and sometimes i had some troubles with it. Practice makes perfekt.
we did really great rides down the glacier with a lot of speed. i love it!
the spitfire 11m² is a really universally usable speedglider with a high range – you can fly or dive! compliments to the developing department of swing!
we forgot to have lunchtime – you can imagine why that 😉
in the afternoon we got the spitfire 9m² from andi(swing speedflying team).
this is a really great rocket. it has a convenient handling and high speed action maneuvers are guaranteed.
Unfortunately the sun wents downwards and so we had to ski back at 4:30pm to get down with the last cable car.
at the evening we had a nice party at the Gasthaus Mühle.
thx a lot for this great speedring day!

Speedflying Zimnitz/Leonsberg (1745m)

November 21st, 2010

Hi virgin speedflyers and extreme mountaineers!
Yesterday, Martin, Harry and me we drove to the salzkammergut for doing pioneering work and tried a new speedflying possible mountain.
first we thought we can do the feuerkogel, but thats only for easterly wind and there was also some fog upon there. so we decided to drive ahead.
then we saw a nice mountain on the right hand side. the zimnitz aka leonsberg (1745m). we hiked up there for 2 hours and had a lot of fun starting our gliders at southerly wind speed of about 35km/h.
martin did his first flight with his speedflyer. Well down martin!
Harry had a nice start and i had a lot of fun with many deep and steep spirals ;))
thx for this gread mountain.

Speedflying Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m)

November 13th, 2010

Hi foen addicted Speedflyer!
This day Patrick, Harry and me we drove to Spital and we hiked up in a really warm weather(föhn) to the grosser pyhrgas (2244m)
Patrick did the start at the west starting zone, but that was really tricky.
harry and me we looked for another starting zone because the southerly wind was getting stronger.
we found a nice cliff where we only had to run 1 step and we flew. crazy!
it was possible to do some soaring near the rocks because of the strong and really constand southerly wind – wonderful!
Then i had to spiral to get down – muhaaaa.
Thx for this nice day in the alps after 2 weeks of not flying…

Caving Kaninchenhoehle

November 7th, 2010

Hi extreme Cave seekers!
Yesterday Martin, Joachim, Christoph, Gregor and me we drove to Altausee to the Loser for exploring the Kaninchenhoehle. first i had to cow the car from christoph because his car ran out of gasoline. that was a good start to wake up in the morning (5am). but with our ropes in the trunk we were possible to reach the next gas station with a speed of 60km/h 😉 …
We needed one and a half hour to the entrance from the parking lot. we took the 161d entrance which is not so easy to reach because of the mountain pine zone(its only 3metres to go! 😉
30m’s after the entrance we saw a black bat hang around on the side wall in mothshag. we could not identify it because we are not really big bat men…
then we had to climb and crawl very narrow gangways and we had to take care of the muddy stone blocks when we crossed them. so one fault and you will have big problems for sure!

we saw here really amazing stalgtites curtains – wonderful! nevertheless we reached then our goal for this day the knossos chamber which is a really great hall inside this cave with 50ms diameter. we had to abseil to this hall in a 20m pitch. there was one really great looking but very dangerous wedge block which will fall downwards in the direction where we had to abseil. we recognized this when we had to climb up this back.
we did some nice photos at the star wars section and then we went to the waterfall chamber where my digicam suddenly fallen down 8m because it was on a steep and narrow place. we climbed down beside the big block and could only grab the destroyed digicam. Shit happens! bette the camera got destroyed than me. but that was a good sign too to get a new camera 😉
we walked 1100m inside the cave on direction -thats far for a one day trip!

so we went back to the entrance and reached the entrance at 4pm. that was important to reach the karl stöger steig in the daylight otherwise we could have get really big orientation problems in the mountain pine zone… at 7pm we reached the parking lot at the loser alm one of us suffered from a hypocylycaemic episode. but with a power gel and some apples we managed this problem too. at the parking lot we drank the most important beer forever…;)
so thanks a lot for this great weekend. it was a pleasure to walk in such beautiful nature with well committed people. big up!

Scuba diving Enns in Kastenreith

October 17th, 2010

Hi extreme relaxing divers 😉
Yesterday Aichinger Thomas from Unterwasserfoto.at and me we drove to kastenreith near weyer and did a 40min’s dive in the 8°C cold enns river.
The spot there is really exciting because of some old war relicts what you can find unterwater! we could find an old lorry and some explosive bodys and the rest of a rifle and many other nice rock canyons and some fishes.
Have a look to the video!
After the diving i had to jump from the bridge for getting some adrenaline shot 😉
thx for the great relaxing scuba dive.
you can imagine that we had to drink some electrolyte to fill up our dehydrated body…
cya on the water or in the air – depends on the weather conditions!

Speed Flying Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m)

October 16th, 2010

Hi fog addicted Speed Junkies!
Last Thursday Patrik and me we drove to Spital am Pyhrn and hiked up to the Grosser Pyhrgas (2244m above sealevel).
In the valley there was a lot of clouds to see, but when we arrived aboud 1800m height we had a really amazing view over the bottom clouds. What a nice evening.
Then we thought twice if we should fly thru the fog. We came to the point that the fog has only 200m’s of height so: Beat it!
By the way, such no visibility flights are forbidden!! so don’t try this at home baby’s!
Look to the video, then you can imagine the great flight.
Thx for the wonderful nice autumn evening!
