Ski Mountaineering – Scheiblingstein (2197m)

March 25th, 2012

hi extreme spring snow skiers!
this day rainer, robert, marlene and me we drove to hall and hiked up above the lange gasse to the scheiblingstein. we were happy about the cloudy weather. otherwise the snow would have been worse. robert and me managed to reach the summit in cloudy conditions, but after a while the clouds clear away. there was wrong wind (northern wind) so i was not able to start my speedglider. but so i could practise my skiing. i felt really good and the snow conditions was quit good. yihaaaaaaaaaa ;))) what a feeling to ride down with my therapist rainer who took care the last half year after my accident. thanks for the great service!!
at the chalet we had our chilling time and the last ride was no problem anymore. thanks for this great tour with wonderful people!!
have a nice week.

Speed Riding Großer Priel (2515m)

March 18th, 2012

Hi extreme wannabe gerlinde’s 😉
on friday marlene, michaela, birgit and me drove to hinterstoder at afternoon and we hiked up to the prielschutzhaus.
there we met stefan from czech republic. we did our dinner with 10 other guys from cz. they were 4 days at the prielschutzhaus for ski mountaineering.
we were lucky to sleep at a normal guesthouse room in the hut and not the crowded winter room.
nevertheless at 5am on saturday we woke up and started the tour one hour later. the sunrise was very beautiful and we needed 3 hours to the beginning of the brotfallscharte. we decided very fast to fix our crampons because marlene slided down 30m like in a bob run.
My heart sank into my boots.
we needed some time for the brotfallscharte but its better to go more slowly than to risk any dangerous situations. the view at the top of the brotfallscharte was really great. we admired the dachstein region and the great totes gebirge. at the secondary summit we stored our skis and hiked on the ridge to the summit of the großer priel. wowwwww what a nice feeling. after a break we hiked back to our skis and stefan and me we flew with our speedglider down to the jausenstation. so we had to wait 3 hours for our girls because they drove down to the klinserscharte and hiked another 500m’s of height up and skied down the dietlhölle which was very steep for skiing. but they managed it very good. congratulations to the girls team!! so stay tuned and cya at the great mountains.
have a nice week

Skimountaineering Ebenforstalm

February 19th, 2012

hi extreme laid-back mountaineering people.
last day a group with eleven friends hiked up with skis and snowshoes from bodinggraben to the ebenforstalm.
we hike up the logging road because of bad avalanche situation (avalanche grade 3). we arrive at 4pm and the de fog was blown away.
after coffee we coooked a tiroler gröstl together which was really great because of a lot of onion bacon and spices.
thx for the nice après-ski fun.
next time we do this tour together with mountain bikes ;)))
then we will have probably no avalanche risk….
cya at the mountains and enjoy the last carneval days.

You live and learn…

January 16th, 2012

Hi extreme flight casualties!
This Day i resumed work after 14 weeks of rehabilitation of my accident with my parachute at the burgspitz on the first of december 2011.
I hiked up with 3 friends to the burgspitz(1429m asl) near weyer.
it was a great day for parachuting.
after my friends started with their parachute i decided to go to the summit and started there my hybrid parachute (17m²).
there were no clouds but i could see the wind was blowing uphill. so felt good to start my glider at the steep channel.
the glider shot very fast to the front and something to the left side. i decided not to stop the launch process and ran below the glider.
i started to fly but then i got hit by a rotor (lee) and i sank, then i had to turn right very fast otherwise i hit the trees. so i did a pendulum into the steep channel where i hit by the left. aaaaaaaaaa.
i realised that there was something with my foot so i packed my glider into my backpack and hiked up about 20m’s to the summit because i had no mobile access.
at the summit i was able to reach the mountain rescue which sent me the christophorus 15. the christophorus team did a nice service and so i had a nice flight to the hospital.
after the ct and xray i heard the diagnostics that i had a talus fracture of my left foot with torn ligament. the doctor told me it was a serious injury and it was not sure to get the full function after recovery again. it was a shock for life.
10 days later dr. charly w. did a great job and reconstructed my ancle with 2 screws and one drill wire to fix the talus with the heel bone. after 8 weeks of immobilization of my left foot they team of the accident team removed the drill wire with a second operation.
at 4th. oder december i drove to althofen for 3 weeks for rehabilitation to learn again walking after 10 weeks walking on crutches.
i was happy to got a nice room mate. he was arno from vienna. he’s motorbiking on his mind. so we got along wonderfully and had a lot of fun while eating and sining carinthian folk songs with our ladies from carinthia ida and angela. the time was great because of hard training and great progress.
at christmas eve we celebrated a nice party with a good gala dinner. yummy. at new year’s eve marlene and me we did a bivouac beside the breitofener hütte at 1520m above sea level in a wonderful winter landscape. thank you for this unforgetable time.
thanks to everyone at reha althofen. i felt being in very good hands.
i also have to say thank you to rainer my physical therapist who did a wonderful job with looking after me.
Health isn’t everything, but everything is nothing without health.
Take care! See you in the air….

Fixed rope route Drachenwand

September 26th, 2011

hi fixed rope route rookies!
yesterday andi, klara, marlene and me we drove to mondsee for climbing the fixed rope route drachenwand.
for marlene it was her first tour, so we decided to start later than normal. but we ended also in a big rush hour because of so many climbers in this famous tour.
nevertheless this tour was really great with lot of sun and fun and amazing views around the mondsee.
unfortunately i couldn’t start my speedglider ;(
so andi and me we hiked up to the exit for basejumping. muhaaaaaaaa that must be fun too ? ;))
dreams come true…
cya in the air or rocks

Mountaineering and Caving Neuner Kogel

September 26th, 2011

hi extreme death mountain paraglider wannabe’s.
last saturday and martin and me we drove to grünau im almtal for checking out a new discovered cave from martin – the “toagschmied höhle”.
we climbed up the sepp huber steig to the röllsattel and hiked without any path to the cave.
martin and and abseiled down about 12m to the ground. unfortunately that was the end. but that can happen while discovering caves.
then we hiked through a great karst land scape.
at the neuner kogel we did a small rest and then i tried to start my parachute 50m’s down from the summit. i made everything ready but then the wind ran off.
so i decided not to start and so we went down to the almsee which was not my favourite ending of this tour…
ok next time i will be earlier at the starting place.
when you want to start a parachute the best time is until half past 2 in the afternoon according to the local leo.
but with some beers and debreziner everything was forgotten 😉
cya at the mountains

Climb and Speed Flying in Eisenerz

September 11th, 2011

Hi extreme saturday climbers!
last day summit surfer klemens and me we drove to eisenerz with the plan to climb all fixed iron rope routes and fly with our speedglider from the summits.
in the morning at 6am we started at the gemeinde alp and hiked up to the start of the kaiserschild klettersteig. at 8:50 we reached the kaiserschild (2084m). the flight was really great beside the great wall and without wind. yihaaaa.
then we drove to the pfaffenstein parking lot where we started at 10:13 and climbed the eisenerzer klettersteig to the pfaffenstein (1865m) what we reached at 12:25. the start from the pfaffenstein was easy because klemens managed this start with his first trial 😉
at the landing we had to take care from the high voltage cable in the air but not problem for us.
then we drove to the leopoldsteiner see where we did a rest with some radler and some swimming.
at 3pm we started to the kaiser franz joseph klettersteig and had a nice hot climbing in the seemauer wall to the hochblasser (1771m).
at 17:20 we ended the climbing tour and hiked to the launching place. what a nice place there. muhaaa
the flight from the seemauer was really fine, but little bit short.
have a look to the video to get some impressions.

Speed Flying Tamischbachturm (2035m)

September 3rd, 2011

hi extreme mountaineers!
after the lugauer summitsurfer klemens and me we drove further to gstatterboden for trying a new speedfly spot, the tamischbachturm (2035m) in the gesäuse.
we hiked from gstatterboden over the ennstaler hut.
we flew with our glider (spitfire from swing) from the summit to hieflau. the flight was great, a 9m² spitfire must be perfect for this line.
unfortunately i flew to far away from my planned landing place oder the avalanche building, so i landed at a small grassfield in front of the hunters hut! great idea but it worked well 😉
thx for this great exploring day.
cya at the river tomorrow.
